Thomas Byrd, Sr

Thomas Eric Byrd Sr. passed away on April 6, 2025 at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on August 7, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri to Charles William Byrd Sr. and Mason Doris Byrd.

Thomas was baptized in St. John A.M.E. Church at an early age. He grew up in Kansas City, MO and was educated in the Kansas City, MO Public School District. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1966.

Thomas began working for Byrd Construction as an apprentice brick layer where he worked for several years. He then worked at Allied Signal as a Millwright from 1969 – 2002 when he retired. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and working on cars. Thomas was a gifted singer and shared his talent with various choirs.   He was quick to break out in song with his melodious voice at any given moment.

He also was a Mason in the Fred W. Dabney Lodge #24 where he is a Past Master. He was a member for 40 years and had a Gold Card Membership.

He was preceded in death by his Father, Charles William Byrd Sr. Siblings: Richard Byrd, Donald Byrd and Julia Lutz.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Mason Byrd, his wife Sharon Byrd, Children Thomas Byrd Jr., Demetrius “Rocky” Byrd, Kerri Byrd, Jason Johnson Sr. and Jessica Byrd; Siblings: William Charles Byrd Jr. (Carol), Paul Byrd (Janie), Willa Byrd and Otona Dahmer and a host of other relatives and friends.
