Vanessa Buycks

MRS. VANESSA BUYCKS Vanessa Renee Buycks was born on March 1, 1957, to the union of Esther O. and Thurston Monroe in Seaside, California. She was the only girl of 4 boys born to this union and she was "The Diva". Vanessa accepted Christ at the age of 14 in the Church of Christ. Her high school years were eventful where she graduated from Southeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri in the Class of 1975. Subsequent to high school she received her Cosmetology License from the Jefferson Beauty College. In 1977 Vanessa married Edo Buycks II and to this union were born 3 sons, Quintrell, Edo, and Derrick. Her sons were her pride and joy and her "headstrong" attitude enabled her to raise them to be self-sufficient, strong, and family oriented men. Vanessa utilized her cosmetology skills and entered the business world and became a receptionist for Research Hospital, Marriott Corporation, Investors Title Company in Kansas City. She relocated to St. Louis and continued her career at the Missouri College where she completed intensive training in Ethics. Additionally, she received citations from Missouri College for Excellent "Customer Service". In 2006, Vanessa returned to her native Kansas City to assist her Mother and brothers. Due to her "well-spoken and spirited" nature she assimilated back into the Kansas City Culture quickly. Needless to say, she was an excellent cook, avid Chiefs fan, and she "loved to eat". Vanessa also LOVED her grandchildren. Numerous celebrations included her grandchildren performing for the celebrants in the form of dance, computer antics, and spoken word. She was described by her grandchildren as "smart and good". Vanessa's final position of employment was as a Home Health Nurse where her culinary skills- became renowned. Her specialties included red velvet cakes and potato pizzas. Her Diva was not diminished in her perfect make-up and high heels, #Thickythick! Her father and one brother, Steven preceded her in death. After a valiant and eventful illness she was called home to rest on March 19, 2016 at 11:38pm in the bosom of the Lord. Vanessa's memories will forever be cherished by her Mother Esther Monroe; three sons, Quintrell (Katina), Edo Matthew (Tamika), Derrick Miguel (Tamika) all of Kansas City, MO; seven grandchildren; three brothers Thurston "Keith"(Carlet), Jeffery Lynn of Kansas City, and Ronald "Wayne" of Greensboro, NC; Aunts Ivo Foster and Vermastine "Stine" O'Neal, of Kansas City; "Special Niece" Toneshia Ware, a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins in Arkansas, Kansas City, and St. Louis all of whom loved her…and a host of friends.
