Vera Lucille Bowden 71 was born in Denver, Colorado on May 11, 1949. She was the oldest of 2 children, born to Richard Lee and Dorothy Virginia Scott. She was preceded in death by both her parents.

Due to her father being in the service, Vera resided in Colorado, Okinawa, Japan, and Everett, Washington., however after her father’s death, her mother returned to her hometown Kansas City, Missouri. Vera attended junior and high school in Kansas City, Missouri graduating from Lincoln High School class of 1967.

She met and married James Bowden in 1968 and to this union four children were born. The marriage was later dissolved. She did her best to raise her children with love and to know the Lord. She had a knack about connecting people and always knowing somebody. She loved people and would always greet you with a big smile, excitement, or laughter.

She worked for US Postal Service, IRS, and Jackson County Records Department where she retired in 2007. She believed in the Lord and aimed to strengthen her relationship w/him thru membership at Judah FWC under Bishop Michael Craddock. She held an Accounting degree from Penn Valley Community College. She was involved in various activities and organizations, however one of her biggest accomplishments was being apart of a mural painting on the ceiling on Jackson County Courthouse 2nd floor, which is available for public viewing.

Vera is survived by her four children Lazeta (Brian) Davis, Elcarmeita (Kim) Jones, Veresa, and James Bowden III; grand-kids, Derron, Lerron, Rashawnda, Zoria, Javion, Richard, Taj’Janee, Traeshell, Keyonna Hudson, Brettnei Hall, Jayla and Brandon Curry; sister Velma Scott, niece Asia Lacey, her great-grand kids and a host of family and friends. She will be missed by all.
