Vernice Nell Thompson, 94, passed away on July 22, 2024, at home in Raytown, MO. She was born on December 26, 1929 in Marietta, Texas to Bennie Earl Alexander and Bernice Alexander.

She grew up in Huges Springs, Texas.  She graduated from Marshall High School in Marshall, Texas as Valedictorian.  After high school she attended Bishop College in Marshall, Texas where she received a degree in Clerical Administration.  Vernice started her career journey at an early age working for President Hotel. She then started working for UMKC as a Nutritionist Specialist. She worked at Bendix Ammunition Plant for several years before transferring to the ammunition plant in Marshall, Texas. Later Vernice went to Texas School for Nursing and for several years worked as a private duty nurse. Vernice retired from nursing in 2012.

Vernice turned her life over to GOD at a very young age. She was a member of Prince of Peace Baptist Church for several years before moving back to Texas in 1987. Vernice became a member and continue serving GOD at St. John Baptist Church in Texas.

Vernice was a proud, independent woman and lived her life encouraging others to accept GOD as their Savior. She was an encouraging drive for her children to love one another. She loved and was loved by all the people she touched.

Vernice moved back to Kansas City in 2014, where she lived until GOD called her home to rest.

She was preceded in death by her Parents: Bennie and Bernice Alexander, Stepmother: Willie Alexander, Brother: Richard Lee Alexander, Sr., Son: Ricardo L Herron, Sr., Grandchildren: David A Willard, Alexander D. Herron, Jamar Finley, Shawn L. Herron. Sr., Ricardo L. Herron, Jr., and Sherie Herron. Niece: Patricia Alexander-Guyton; Nephew: Richard Lee Alexander, Jr.

She is survived by her Daughters: Era Herron and Jimmel Finley (Kenneth), Sons: Arthur Herron, Sr., David Caldwell, and Eric Caldwell (Kathy); 12 Grandchildren: Stephon Caldwell (Crystal), Alyssa Caldwell, William Herron, Kenyetta Finley, Kenneth Finley II (Jenelle), William Finley, Arthur Herron, Jr., Bianca Autrey (Isaac), Chamin Herron, Woj Tyna L. Willard, ShaBrea M Miller (Tacario), and Ashley J Caldwell. 2 Brothers: Billy Ray Alexander and Tommy D. Alexander, Four Sisters: Carolyn Sayles, Jo Jimmerson, Virginia Jones, and Mary Ann Williams all of Texas. Stepsons: Jeffery Thompson and Clinton Thompson. Best Friend: Rachel Slaughter, a host of Great, and Great Great Grandchildren.
