Vernon Johnson Jr.

Vernon Lee Johnson, Jr., (Rusty) was born August 10, 1953 in Camden, Arkansas to Thelma (Burks) Lewis and Vernon Lee Johnson, Sr. Vernon departed this life on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at Blue River Nursing Home. Vernon was preceded in death by both parents, his stepfather Eddie Lewis, brother Bruce Johnson and special cousins Sonny Penigar and Michael Burks.

Vernon moved to Kansas City at a young age with his mother and family. He was raised in Kansas City, Kansas by his mother and stepfather Eddie Lewis. Vernon was employed at Ford Motor Company in Claycomo, Missouri for 33 years, retiring in 2005, where he was known as Slick by his friends. After retiring he spent time traveling back to Arkansas to visit his relatives and to go fishing with his cousin Sonny. He alao spent time with his wife and family in Springfield, Missouri. Vernon enjoyed watching movies and watching wrestling with his gtandchildren who affectionally called him Paw-Paw. Vernon was a gentle soul who always had a smile and a story to share. To know him was to love him.

Vernon leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his life, his wife Jessilyn (Chelly) of the home, son Anthony (Talisha) and daughter KeNeshia of Kansas City, stepdaughter Valina Hill of Dallas, Texas brother Damon Lewis of Leavenworth, Kansas, sisters Beverly Hogan (Ellis) of Camden, Arkansas, and Sookie Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska, ten grandchildren, Jaszlyn, Vahnyel, Santana, Dedrick, Karmen, AK, Eddie, David, Vernon, Amajahnae, and a host of other relatives and friends.
