Versie Lee (Dean) Hoskins, 87, of Kansas City, Missouri, entered into eternal rest on December 1, 2025.
Versie was the matriarch of the Hoskins family.
Versie received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She came from family that were deeply rooted in the Lord. She was a member of the Community Progressive Baptist Church where she sung soprano in the choir.
Versie was born on September 16, 1938, in Memphis, Tennessee to Mr. Eugene Lee and Zettie Mae (Rucker) Dean. Versie was proceeded in death by both parents; sisters: Ethel Mae Baynham, Doris Ann Walker, Sarah Dean and Evalina Dean; her bothers: Eugene Dean Jr., Eddie Lee Bounds, Ivory Dean, Willie James Dean, and WC Farmer Jr.
She attended elementary school in Memphis, Tennessee, and later moved to Kansas City, Missouri as a teenager completing her education in the Kansas City Missouri School District.
Versie met Charles H. Hoskins Sr. at an early age, and the two married on December 24, 1957. To this union, six children were born. Versie was a very devoted wife for 57 years, until the death of her husband. She was also proceeded in death by daughters, Cheryl Hoskins and Jacqueline Burns.
Versie dedicated 35 years of faithful service in the Environmental Services Department at Children’s Mercy Hospital, where she was admired for her work ethic, kindness, and unwavering commitment to helping others.
Versie was a woman of grace, compassion, and quiet strength. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, while sharing cherished time with her family, dancing, getting her boogie on, was also a must, visiting the boat and relaxing with a game of solitaire on her phone. Her gentle spirit and warm heart were felt by all, and she was known as a loving, caring, and compassionate mother, grandmother, and aunt. Not only to her own family but to everyone whose lives she touched. She will be remembered for her laughter, generosity, and the steady, comforting presence she brought into every room.
Versie is lovingly remembered by her children: Charles Hoskins Jr. (Demetra), Olivia White (Andre), Beverly Rand, and Doris Hoskins (Phillip). She also leaves two grandchildren she raised as her own, Antonio Hoskins (Sandra) and Candace Johnson, all of Kansas City, Missouri; her brothers: Gregory Farmer (Maryann) of Kansas City, Missouri and Albert Dean (Dorothy) of Memphis, Tennessee. She also leaves behind nineteen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, unity, and devotion that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and she will be deeply missed.
