Virgie Lenora Nolen-Nelson, 87, was born May 19, 1934, in Vernon Oklahoma to Fred P. Nolen and Irma M. Cato-Nolen. She was the first born of five siblings. She moved to Kansas City, Missouri with her family at the tender age of two years old. Virgie married her teenage sweetheart Lloyd L. Nelson, Jr. and to that union, six beautiful children were born. Virgie attended the Kansas City Public Schools as a child. She became a dedicated member of Ward Chapel AME Church, the 3rd of 5 generations. Growing up, she took up modeling, and enjoyed being part of school aged activities in the KC school district. Virgie was a family oriented, loving vibrant, vivacious wife to Lloyd until their divorce. They remained friends despite their differences.

She was a member of several organizations: Stewardess Board at Ward Chapel AME, Gospel Choir member at Eastern Star, Board Member and Kansas City President for the Cato Family Reunion, a Mary Kay Cosmetics Consultant, Den mother of Boys Scout of America, a member of the PTA Association, and other local organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Irma Nolen; sister, Nellie Byrd; brothers: Frederick Nolen and Gary Nolen; her daughter; Linda Stone; and her grandson; Eric Nelson Sr. Virgie gained her wings and departed this life on Wednesday, August 11, 2021.

She leaves to cherish her memories the father of her children: Lloyd L. Nelson Jr; one son: Steve Nelson, four daughters; Veda Nelson, Terri Nelson-Stringer (Manuel), Wendy Nero, Ericka Nelson; son-n-law Marvin Stone III, a sister; Mary Arnold (Robert); grandchildren: Tasha Nelson, Precious Connelly (Marvin), DeAndre Nelson, Michael Nelson, Terrel Nelson, Area Freeman, Marvin Stone IV, and Abrihl Brown, 12 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and many friends.
