Rev. Warren Gamaliel Freeman Jr. began his earthly walk on October 12, 1959. He was the younger of two children born to Virginia Lee Ferguson Freeman and Warren Gamaliel Freeman Sr. at Ft. Benning, GA. At age six, the family relocated to Kansas City, KS, home of both parents, when his father was deployed to Vietnam.
He attended school in USD 500, Kansas City, Kansas, and was a graduate of F.L. Schlagle High School. He was also active in various activities during high school, especially those connected to music. For two years, Rev. Warren was drum major of the Stallions Marching Band.
Following high school, he matriculated to Wichita State University, where he earned degrees in Business Administration and Accounting. In addition to his undergraduate studies, he earned post graduate degrees in religious studies and theology from Central Baptist Seminary. Additionally, he received certification in the areas of drug and alcohol counseling and multi-generational therapy.
Rev. Warren married Dianne E. McClain Freeman in February, 1984. They partnered in marriage and ministry for 32 years. Their union was blessed with two beautiful daughters. Dianne went on to be with the Lord in July, 2016.
Rev. Warren answered God’s call into ministry while attending Trinity A.M.E. Church. Through the years as an Itinerate Elder his pastorates included churches throughout the states of Kansas, Missouri, and Washington State. He would preach his last message at his current pastorate, Christ our Redeemer A.M.E. Church Kansas City, MO.
He possessed a strong desire to serve the community wherever he was assigned. Serving on staff, at various social agencies as well as drug and alcohol treatment facilities. He served on the staff of Kansas Multicultural Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center, Swope Parkway Health Center and Neighbor to Neighbor, to name a few. Rev. Warren was active in local and state politics in Washington State where he received many awards and achievements. However, he was proud to have served on the Board of Examiners, on the General Conference Episcopal Committee, an Annual Conference Delegate and as host and opening messenger for several Annual Conferences. He was well-known for his musical gifts, and often sang when he preached.
Rev. Warren loved his family, food and fun. He loved to travel-whether it was a mission trip or for pleasure. He loved old movies and was known to be a closet comedian. He enjoyed to telling jokes and performed impersonations. Rev. Warren’s personality was as big as his heart.
Rev. Warren always said, “As an A.M.E. preacher he goes wherever he is sent and desires to serve with a glad heart.” He answered his last appointment on December 9th, 2019. He peacefully slipped away to stand in the presence of God, and to receive the rest he so richly deserved.
He leaves to cherish his love and memories, daughters Marley Kristina Freeman, RayAnn Louise Graves (Jarrard); grandchildren, Brian and Kiley Graves, and god-granddaughter, Raelyn Long; sister Angeline Freeman Payne; sisters-in-law, Evalyn McDonald and Carlos McClain, devoted friend Lois Pickens, and a host of nephews, nieces, church family and friends.
