On January 27, family and friends gathered together to say farewell at St. Joseph Hospital. Wayne M. Dorsey peacefully passed away on January 28. Wayne was preceded in death by both parents. Wayne M. Dorsey was born April 25, 1957 in Omaha, Nebraska to Ruth F. and Raymond W. Dorsey Sr. He was the youngest of three boys. Wayne’s biggest joy as a young person was attending Central High in Omaha and participating in Boys Scout, ROTC, and the annual talent event called the Road Show.

In his spare time in High School and after graduating from High School and while attending and the University of Nebraska, he played the organ for St. John AME Church and Metropolitan Missionary Baptist youth choirs. He also played occasionally for a Women Community group under the leadership of his Mother.

One of his frequent duty was to drive his Mother and later his Wife to wherever they needed to go. He was an excellent driver and would always do the research to find the best routes.

At the age of 13, he became friends with Karla who was 12 at the time. They met at a Kansas-Nebraska Young People Department AME Conference. They would see each other at the Conferences. Karla’s parents were celebrating their 25th Anniversary and Wayne drove his Mother to Topeka. Karla and Wayne were married a year later. They have been married 36 years.

Wayne loved to travel and sing. In his adult years, he was a member of the Men’s Chorus, and Young Peoples Department at Bethel AME Church Omaha. He participated in the Voice of Bethel and Usher Board at Bethel AME Church Kansas City, Missouri. As a longtime member of Christ Our Redeemer AME Church in Kansas City, Mo he participated in Voices of Praise, Couple Praise Group, Trustee Board and Men’s Ministry. He also was an avid History, Science fan and enjoyed going to KC Chief’s games with Karla.

His immediate family include his best friend and loving Wife Karla Denise Rhea Dorsey, Brothers Raymond W Dorsey JR.(Marilyn), Howard Dale Dorsey (Patricia), Brother in Law Sidney L. Jeffers (Kimberly Jeffers), Sister in Laws, Lawrette Rhea Williams, Kris Rhea and Kelly Rhea. Wayne will also be missed by cousins, nephews, nieces, family and friends.
