William Lawrence “DeeDee” Batteau, 63, passed away on December 4, 2025, at Research Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Born on June 1, 1962, in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was the beloved son of Paul Emile and Rose Marie (Lemar) Batteau.
William grew up in New Orleans and graduated from George W. Carver High School. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he earned numerous honors and certifications that reflected his dedication, discipline, and service to his country. William also has numerous accolades, certifications, and education achievements. He earned an Associate's Degree in Business. He retired as a EVS worker from the Kansas City VA Medical Center.
Outside of his professional life, William was a man of many gifts. He loved to cook and took pride in preparing meals for those he cared about. He was also a talented artist who enjoyed drawing and painting, expressing himself through creativity and color. Alongside his artistic abilities, William had a remarkable talent for working with his hands. He could put almost anything together, lay tile, paint walls, and tackle home projects with skill and confidence. He also crafted beautiful Indian suits, showcasing both his creativity and craftsmanship.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas Lemar and Rose Merricks; his parents, Paul and Rose Batteau; and his siblings: Glenn Batteau, Albert Batteau, Anita Stirgus, and Dwight Stirgus, along with many other cherished family members and friends.
William leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his daughter, Carrie Batteau; his sons: De’William, Glenn, and Dominick Batteau; and his stepsons: Tommy Grandison, Ramon Grandison, and Nicko Walker. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Danisha Batteau, DeWilliam Batteau, Ca’mya Farr, Don’jae Jones, Donae’ Jones, and Amoris Dobbins; his siblings: Frederick Batteau, Ernest Batteau, Brenda Stirgus, and Victoria Stirgus; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other loving family and dear friends who loved him deeply.
William “DeeDee” Batteau lived a life marked by service, resilience, creativity, and love. His legacy continues in the lives of all who were blessed to know him.
