Yolanda Williams-Higgins received her wings on November 24, 2018 at the Maple Woods Health Care Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born to the union of Elbert L. and Dorothy L. Williams on October 27, 1946. She was one of two children, Daniece Williams-Tivis. Her parents and sister preceded her in death.
During her youth, Yolanda took dancing at the Mable Williams Dance Studio, where she studied tap and ballet. Yolanda attended Lincoln High School in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated in 1964.
Yolanda was 18 when she attended school to become a phlebotomist. She then began her internship at the General Hospital II, and because she was really good at her profession, she was offered her first job at the hospital. She was an employed at the Osteopathic Hospital where she participated in the opening of the first school of phlebotomy. She was also employed at the Martin Luther King Hospital and then became employed at Alice Chalmers as a spray painter for 11 years. During this time she also opened 2 night clubs (Yodie’s Place and Ms Wolfs).
Yolanda was raised to attend church and was a member of the Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Jesus Christ and then joined the Universal Spiritual Church of Jesus Christ in 1976. During her young adult years Yolanda was a member of the Leviticus Singers in which she sung soprano.
She leaves to mourn her 2 daughters, Kira Higgins, Toni Higgins-Chukes, J’von Higgins, X’Zvaionn Higgins, X’Zaundrea Higgins, Major Davis Jr., Makai Higgins-Davis and a host of relatives and friends.
