Kansas City, Missouri

Listen to Obituary

With her bubbly personality, infectious smile, and free spirit, to know her was to love her. Family and friends affectionately called her Za or Z. She was unapologetically blunt and straightforward. She was adventurous with a nothing's too big to conquer attitude. She wasn't afraid to try anything; she swam with the sharks in the Dominican Republic and braved the zombie apocalypse in Las Vegas. As she would always say, "It's All A Part of the Adventure." She loved action movies, visiting New York to see Broadway plays like Hamilton and Wicked, and she loved driving fast and furious.

She also loved traveling, music, reading, and hosting game nights; winning a game of Uno No Mercy earned her bragging rights. But what made her happiest was spending quality time with her family and friends, as well as fulfilling her goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. Za loved working in the medical field, which she did for more than 25 years.

Zakiya was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 28, 1975, to Jerry Hurt and Evelyn K. Boydston. She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Hurt, son Austin R. Scott, and Brother-in-law Steven P. Terrell.

She leaves to cherish and celebrate her memory, and a life well lived: her husband of 16 years, Lamont D. Clemoens; son, Arthur L. Scott; three daughters, Avery S. Austin, Darion N. Clemoens (Jose Maldonado), and Dashone L. Clemoens (Reese Sanders); her mother, Evelyn K. Boydston; sister, Monsherry D. Terrell, all of Kansas City, MO, and brother, Andrew D. Scott, of Byron, GA.

Ten grandchildren, Jaeon, Lorenzo, Jariya, Janyla, Harper, Hayden, Stormy, Sunni, Matteo and Kartiair; nephews, Steven and Christian, and a host of other loving family and friends.
