She was the second of 11 children and the eldest of five daughters. She grew up in the Kansas City, KS and Kansas City, MO area and graduated from Paseo Highschool in KCMO on June 9, 1961.

Zelma accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized by Rev. Wilson at Skylight Baptist Church. In 1960 she and her entire family joined Good Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church where Walter J Witherspoon was pastor. Over the years, Zelma was an active member and most memorably, she and the family enjoyed singing in several choirs. She also assisted in the writing of the Church Constitution and served some time as a member of the Trustee Board and Bylaws Committee. Zelma remained a faithful member of Good Samaritan until her passing.

In 1961, Zelma married Kenneth M. Watkins, and they had three beautiful daughters: Rosemary, Terri, and Tina. She and her husband were married for 39 years before he passed away. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She also loved taking care of children She was like a second mother and grandmother to many. Some fondly referred to her as “Mommy Zel” Even though she worked for a short time at both Bendix and Western Electric taking care of children was her heart and she did so for many years.

Zelma is proceeded in death by her parents (IIee Sr. and Ruthie Mae), brothers (Kenneth and Ilee Jr.), sisters (Vivian, Teresa, and Janice), Husband (Kenneth), and daughters (Rosemary, Tina, and Terri).

Zelma Lee Watkins leaves to cherish her memory her sister Carolyn (Mark), brothers Larry, Dwight (Denise), Anthony (Peggy), and Joseph as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. She will be dearly missed and forever in the hearts of so many.
